IMPERIAL TIE FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR:
Exceptionally fast and highly
maneuverable, the TIE Interceptor's design made it an impressive adversary when
the Alliance launched its all or nothing attack to destroy the second Death Star
above Endor. With blaster cannons firing, swarms of TIE Interceptors were
dispatched to engage the Alliance's fighters, unleashing a furious defensive
assault to protect the Death Star. Though gallant in their efforts, the TIE
Interceptors could not defeat the Alliance, and the Death Star was obliterated.
TIE INTERCEPTOR INFO:
The Imperial TIE FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR, from
the Original Star Wars Trilogy, as featured in Star Wars Return Of The Jedi.
Available again for a very short time. This U.S Exclusive (available only in
Target) is thought only to be a Limited Edition of about 5000+ World-Wide. It is
Not available in all stores (U.S). This Vehicle is one of the most popular from
the Original '84 ROTJ Range and is looking to become Collectible in this new
Special Edition release. The INTERCEPTOR is a slightly different color to the
Original and has better detail. It has all original Features including: Moving
canopy and room for 3 3/4 Inch Action Figures, Wing explosion activation for
attack. Plus a big bonus: a new Imperial TIE FIGHTER PILOT!! There is no lights
or sound, which is a down side compared to the strong rumors a few years ago
when it was going to be brought back again.
No matter the Interceptor is back again in the new Power Of The Jedi Series. The box detail is awesome compared
it's original version in '84 and finally has some pictures of the vehicle in
action from the movie. The Tie Pilot is slightly different to the standard
figure release, made especially for this Tie Fighter. The packaging for the fighter is again different from any other
POTJ or Star Wars toy for that matter. The Australian release of this vehicle is
was much shorter than the U.S..
RETURN OF THE JEDI MOVIE SCENE:

Like all TIE star fighters,
the TIE interceptor is based upon the earlier TIE/In fighter. The interceptor
has a standard TIE cockpit, solar-array wings, and twin ion engines. However,
the interceptor’s wings have a distinctive "dagger" shape, and the drive system
has been greatly improved to drastically increase the vehicle’s top speed. In
addition, the TIE interceptor utilizes a breakthrough ion stream projector that
allows pilots to execute tight turns and rolls not possible in most other
starfighters. Finally, steering port deflectors can be manipulated individually
for fine control and counterbalancing during especially trying maneuvers.
Unlike virtually all other TIE's, the interceptor wields four laser cannons.
Placed at the end points of each wing, these weapons provide the pilot with a
wide field of fire. The pilot is further aided by advanced targeting software.
Unfortunately, these advances are small consolation when the interceptor
receives a direct hit from an enemy vessel, as the fragile star fighter lacks
armor plating and shields. For this reason, interceptor pilots must rely on
their maneuverability and superior numbers during most engagements. Interceptor
pilots must also wear sealed flight suits and remain within range of large
capital ships or space stations.
